Week 7 Jam Used as a work day

It was a busy day for many animators since the Physics animation challenge entry's were due the next day so we used the time to work on our projects. We'll put up some concept artwork from our projects for those who did one.

Jam 4

Now this one was pretty fun, we celebrated Cinco De Mayo with a partying Hydra, Did some political charicature, and even did some fan-art of Wall-e. We'll want to have more like these.

Sketch Jam 3

This one was pretty fun too. The theme (although arbitrary as always) was to use your backgrounds or environments to add to your character drawings (*cough-h-animators*-cough* )

But as always we did make some fun drawings, and here they are.

New Weekly Jam "Moonlight"

This Jam will be fun, think about any time you've stayed up way past your beddie-bye and have seen the night sky lit up by moonlight.

It's Eerie and enchanting at the same time.

Go ahead and draw with feeling for this one. Have it colored, and it can be as abstract as you like, just try to give it a feeling like you remember. Or if you don't remember make some new memories and look out the window for about 15 minutes, it's cool. ^^

Here's some references for ya just in case:

Sketch Jam 2

This week's Jam topic was "Digital Sketching". I had a lot of fun hosting and giving out tips, as well as watching what the Jammers came up with. Some very cool stuff, check it out.

We'll have to do this one again. ^^

Sketch Jam 1 Spring 2008

First Jam session of the quarter. We had some good times studying expressions and trying to exaggerate them.

We'll have to try this subject again but with a different approach one of these quarters.

The first Weekly Jam!

Hey everybody, let's start this quarter off with a kick! We've got our first subject for the weekly Jams...

A scene or Character from WWI as realistically rendered or stylized as you like.

Just remember the 3 biggest things about the weekly Jams,
1.) EXPERIMENT! Try to incorporate a technique, style or medium that you haven't tried before.
2.) Keep the subject in mind,
3.) Incorporate color in some way.

Here's some good references. Have at it!

Weekly Jam 6!

Ok, here's the scoop on the next weekly Jam. I figured we'd take a shot at the Rockstar. We've seen them on MTV, and in concerts and listened to their songs. Well let's give this next weekly Jam that Rockstar music quality to it as we create our own Rockstar image. You can use yourself as a reference if you want or just make one up, your choice.

Just remember: New rockstar in a style that yell "I wanna' Rock and Roll all Niiiiii-aight!"

There's some references up top and here's a great song for inspiration: I wanna be a Rockstar!

Sketch Jam 5

Here's the favorites from Jam 5.

This weeks goal was to incorporate UPA's styling to characters.

Sketch Jam 4

Here's some sketch Jam favorites from jam 4.

These were a few famous characters and styles that we decided to play with and try the style out for ourselves, or change the characters into another style like our own.

Winter Sketch Jam 3!

We had a fun Jam this week. The topic for sketching for today was Political charicatures and then Football, more or less since there's such a hype about it right about now with the super bowl.

In the political sketches the artists (left to right) are Dusty Hansen, Nick Adducci, and Josiah Van Arsdel. And the political figures (top to bottom) were Barack Obama, Ron Paul, and Hillary Clinton.
And the football sketch artists are (from left to right) Nick Adducci, Dusty Hansen, and Josiah Van Arsdel.
Tomas Farrenkopf also attended but we don't have his work yet. We'll add his in once we get it.

-Enjoy

New Weekly Jam Due Date!

Sorry again for the lateness in getting the info on this weeks weekly Jam out to you guys. Things have been a little crazy lately.

As a result of this lateness, I'm moving back the due date for this weeks Jam until Friday. If you get your weekly Jam entry in the "Sketch Jam" folder on the "Animation Drive" sometime on Friday, I'll host it on the blog here.

- Anyway, this week's weekly Jam theme is... Forgotten or Neglected Mario Characters!

Who hasn't played Mario? Who remembers some of the more obscure forgotten characters of the 8 and 16 - bit era's? Well think of a few and draw what you think they'll be doin' in their spare time while obviously not being played.

Here are some examples up top:

Sorry for the absence

There was a bit of a situation I had to take care of so the site didn't get updated since the last Jam. My bad...

But here's something new for you guys still keeping track of the sketch Jam. After the meeting today we're gonna try to begin a campaign to being in as many people as possible to the sketch Jam this quarter. I'll try sending some personal invites as well as some new poster ideas that may get people to consider coming. I can't wait to hear all your ideas at the meeting tonight!

The weekly Jam will get posted after the meeting.

No Sketch Jam Monday the 21st

Martin Luther King Jr. Day ----- No School

Weekly Jam January 23

Here's the next weekly Jam for all you Jammers:

Monster Mash

What's a party without monsters to crash it? Think of a handful of monsters who'd bring the house down at a party. What'd they be doing? Flirting with the host? Bad dancing? Eating the roof? Run wild with it!

Again any style or medium you want, just make it a challenge for your self.
